1. Par Sands - A very large beach with ample parking and facilities nearby. Ideal for families and also popular for flying kites and kite surfing.

Location: Par, on the coast west of Fowey, signed from A3082 between Fowey and Par.
O/S grid reference: 088533
Nearest car park: At the rear of the beach, chargeable in season.
Access: Car park behind the beach but deep soft sand from the car park, makes it harder for pushchairs and wheelchairs.
Sand / pebbles etc: Sandy.
Swimming: Shallow for a long distance.
Toilets: Yes, short walk behind the beach.
Refreshments: Shop/café and pub close by.
Dogs allowed: Yes all year.

 

2. Polkerris - A sheltered harbour beach in the small village of Polkerris, ideal for families with facilities right by the beach, watersports equipment for hire and tuition.

Location: West of Fowey, off the A3082 between Fowey and Par.
O/S grid reference: 093521
Nearest car park: In the village, chargeable in season, 3 minute walk from the beach.
Access: Short walk on the road from the car park and slipway onto the beach, good access for pushchairs and wheelchairs.
Sand / pebbles etc: Sandy.

Swimming: Sheltered harbour with gentle shelf.
Toilets: Yes.
Refreshments: Beach shop, café, pub and bistro.
Dogs allowed: 1st October - Easter only.

 


3. Polridmouth Cove (pronounced Pridmouth) - A sandy cove situated to the East of Gribben Headland, accessable by foot or by boat (be aware of sandbanks).

Location: West of Fowey on the coastal path and just below Menabilly.
O/S grid reference: 103503
Nearest car park: Hamblands car park at Menabilly, after Polkerris turning, chargeable.
Access: 15 minute walk from the car park through farmland, not suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
Sand / pebbles etc: Sandy.

Swimming: Gentle slope with sandbanks.
Toilets: No.
Refreshments: None.
Dogs allowed: Yes all year.

 

4. Readymoney Cove - Situated by the mouth of the River Fowey it is accessable from the town centre on foot, ideal for families with swimming platform also good for rockpooling at low tide.

Location: Fowey, mouth of the river, at the far end of the Esplanade.
O/S grid reference: 117511
Nearest car park: Tower Park, Readymoney car park, chargeable.
Access: 5 minute walk from beach car park, 20 minute walk from the town centre, good access for pushchairs and wheelchairs, path from car park may be hard for wheelchairs.
Sand / pebbles etc: Sandy.

Swimming: Boat free area and swimming platform.
Toilets: Yes.
Refreshments: Ice cream van Easter to October.
Dogs allowed: 1st October to Easter only.

 


5. Whitehouse (not at high tide) - Even closer to the centre of Fowey, good for families with large sea water paddling pool adjacent.

Location: On the river at Whitehouse Slip on the Esplanade, Fowey.
O/S grid reference: 123515
Nearest car park: Main car park, Hanson Drive, chargeable.
Access: 10 minute walk from main car park and town centre, flight of steps onto the beach makes it inaccessible for wheelchairs in particular.
Sand / pebbles etc: Sandy.
Swimming: Moderate shelving & rocks, adjacent shallow paddling pool.


Toilets: Yes.
Refreshments: 5-10 minute walk from nearest shops.
Dogs allowed: 1st October to Easter only.

 

 

6. Polruan Quay (not at high tide) - Situated next to the Quay and its facilities, ideal for families, also has slipway on to the beach.

Location: On the east side of the river at Polruan.
O/S grid reference: 126512
Nearest car park: St Saviours, Polruan, or limited parking on the quay, both chargeable.
Access: Through Polruan or by passenger ferry from Fowey, excellent access for pushchairs and wheelchairs.
Sand / pebbles etc: Sandy.
Swimming: Gentle shelving, be aware of boat movements.
Toilets: Yes.
Refreshments: Shops and pub.
Dogs allowed: No dogs at any time.


7. Lantic Bay - A hidden cove with a fantastic beach, access is not easy with a steep climb back up.

Location: Small bay on the coast East of Polruan, by Pencarrow Headland.
O/S grid reference: 148509
Nearest car park: National Trust car park on main road into Polruan, chargeable.
Access: 20 minute walk across farmland and down steep cliff path, not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.
Sand / pebbles etc: Pebbles, shingle and some sand.
Swimming: Steep shelf, there can be strong rip currents in certain tidal conditions.
Toilets: None.
Refreshments: None.
Dogs allowed: Yes all year.

 

8. Lansallos Beach - A sheltered beach and relatively unknown so often quiet.

Location: Between Polruan and Polperro on coastal path just below Lansallos.
O/S grid reference: 166512
Nearest car park: National Trust car park at Lansallos, chargeable.
Access: 10 - 15 minute walk down the path from Lansallos, not suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs.
Sand / pebbles etc: Sand and pebbles.
Swimming: Moderate shelving.
Toilets: No.
Refreshments:None.
Dogs allowed: Yes all year.
